Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy

Helping Grow Beautiful Smiles For Life

Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy is designed to correct muscle dysfunction of the orofacial muscle groups to allow our body to grow and function optimally.

As an Orofacial Myofunctional Therapist, (OMT), Katie can evaluate, treat and help restore function of the muscles, aiding in the promotion and development of favourable facial growth and improved breathing function. OMT’s can also identify issues such as tongue and lip ties and determine the severity, the affect on normal function and if treatment or intervention is required. OMT's also work with patients experiencing facial pain disorders such as Temporal Mandibular joint dysfunction and head aches. OMT’s work closely with other allied health professionals to give you the best possible outcome to address your individual needs.

Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy can help treat:

  • Oral habits e.g. thumb and finger sucking, nail biting, use of dummies, chewing of other objects such as clothes and hair.

  • Improper tongue function e.g. tongue thrust, feeding problems.

  • Teeth alignment e.g. crooked, crowded teeth, narrow jaws. Treatment in conjunction with orthodontists when an orofacial Myofunctional Disorder is associated.

  • Tongue and lip ties - assessment, management and the rehabilitation of correct function.

  • Asymmetrical appearance of the face and mouth.

  • Oral function disorders e.g. feeding issues - chewing, drooling and swallowing, feeding and speech problems.

  • Facial pain e.g. Temporal mandibular joint disorder and headaches.

  • Breathing dysfunction.
